This notice is in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Roadmaster has decided that a safety defect exists in certain Blackhawk All Terrain, Falcon 2, Falcon All Terrain, Falcon 3HD, Liberty, Sterling, and Nighthawk tow bars.

This is an important safety recall notice. Please read this notice in its entirety. This is not an advertisement. Roadmaster has identified that motorhome mounted tow bars with roll pin holes, can become loose over time, in the T-bolt assembly. To correct this, Roadmaster will provide hardware to address this issue, if required, at no cost to you. You will not be charged for parts or shipping.

Regardless of the results of your inspection, or if you no longer own the tow bar, please reach out to us so we can document the status of your tow bar and update our records.

Reason for This Notice

In tow bars subject to this notice, the T-bolt (See Figure 1) assembly consists of a large bolt and nut secured by a roll pin. Not all tow bars, even of the same model, have a roll pin and roll pin hole. If the roll pin is missing, damaged, or partially backed out of its hole (more than 1/16 inch above the hole), vibration and repeated loading may allow the T-bolt to disassemble. This could result in separation of the tow bar from the hitch receiver, potentially causing the towed vehicle to separate from the motorhome and increasing the risk of crash.

The condition addressed by this recall develops gradually and can be identified through visual inspection. The roll pin does not become dislodged suddenly. Rather, if affected, the roll pin may slowly migrate from its installed position over many hundreds or thousands of miles of towing due to vibration and repeated loading.

Check Your Tow Bar

  1. Step 1 – Locate the Stinger and T-Bolt Assembly

Unfold your tow bar and locate the stinger and T-bolt assembly as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1 — Stinger and T-bolt assembly location
Figure 1 — Stinger and T-bolt assembly location
  2. Step 2 – Inspect the T-Bolt Assembly

Examine the T-bolt assembly and determine whether it contains one roll-pin hole, two roll-pin holes, or none. Tow bars with one roll-pin hole may have the hole located TOP or BOTTOM of the T-bolt.
Note: There is only one pin. The one roll pin hole is vertically seated, while the double roll pin hole contains a horizontally seated roll pin.

Figure 2 — Shows one roll-pin hole: action needed. Check both top and bottom of the T-bolt.
Figure 2 — Shows one roll-pin hole: action needed. Check both top and bottom of the T-bolt.
Figure 3 — Shows two roll-pin holes: action needed.
Figure 3 — Shows two roll-pin holes: action needed.
Figure 4 — Shows no roll-pin holes: not subject to this recall. No action needed.
Figure 4 — Shows no roll-pin holes: not subject to this recall. No action needed.
    • If the T-bolt assembly has only one roll-pin hole (see Figure 2) or two roll-pin holes (see Figure 3), your tow bar is subject to this recall and action is needed. Please contact us to arrange for a fix.
    • If the T-bolt assembly has no roll-pin holes (see Figure 4), your tow bar is not subject to this recall and no action is needed. But please contact us to let us know your tow bar is fine.

IF THE ROLL PIN IS FULLY SEATED

If the roll pin remains fully seated and there is no play in the stinger assembly:

You may continue to use your tow bar while we work through the recall process and until it has been addressed.

    Before each day of travel:

    • Confirm the roll pin remains fully seated.
    • Confirm there is no excessive play in the stinger assembly.

The condition addressed by this recall does not occur suddenly. Even in affected tow bars, the roll pin would typically require thousands of towing miles to gradually work its way out, if it moves at all. However, it is important that you continue these inspections until your new hardware is installed.

IF THE ROLL PIN IS NOT FULLY SEATED

Do not use your tow bar!

The roll pin must be fully seated in its hole, no more than 1/16 inch above the top of the hole. If your inspection shows that the roll pin is not fully seated:

    1. STOP TOWING IMMEDIATELY
    2. Email us. (See below.)
    3. Set the email subject line to URGENT!
    4. Include photographs, if possible, clearly showing the roll pin condition.

Customers actively experiencing this condition are being prioritized so we can get them back on the road as quickly as possible.

  3. Step 3 – Verify Tow Bar Serial Number

Locate the serial number on your tow bar (see Figure 5). This is helpful for our records and to ensure you receive the correct replacement hardware.

Please inspect your tow bar to determine your serial number.
